The amount of stay at home moms has dramatically decreased in the last few decades. More and more mothers are finding that they need to work in order to be able to afford to care for their families. This can be more so the case if it is a single parent home. The need to breast feed babies is an issue and there are many ways that mothers can save their breast milk for use later. You simply need to purchase something to use for breast milk storage.
One of the most convenient ways to freeze breast milk is to use breast milk storage bags. The Medela milk storage bags were made with busy mothers in mind. You can pump directly into this bag which makes them even more convenient. They come in five ounce storage size which is enough for a newborn feeding.
If you do not need as much milk at one time, or if you are looking for middle sized option, then the Medela five ounce bags can be used and work well when only half filled. You do not need to fill up the entire bag and defrosting will take less time as well. Some people prefer to have the option of a quick defrost.
As you baby gets older, you may need a larger size bag. A six month old baby will need more milk than a newborn will. If that is the case, then you may want to go with the Lansinoh breast milk storage bags. These bags can hold up to ten ounces of milk and are perfect for freezing the milk as well.
As stated previously, that while the Medela bags can be pumped into, the Lansinoh bags do not offer this option. This can be a huge downside to the bags but it was generally felt that the overall quality of the bag and the double zip lock made up for this inconvenience. It was more important for the milk to be stored properly to reduce waste than it was to have the ease of pumping directly into the bag.
One of the main concerns when dealing with the Medela bag was the zip lock closure. Many felt that the double closure on the Lansinoh offered a better seal. The plus side to the Medela bag was that once it was closed properly, it would stay sealed longer and would not leak as long as the proper amount of milk was placed in it.

This is the most important aspect to both bags. Many people reported leaking from both styles but this was usually due to improper usage. Any fluid will expand in the cold. When you over fill a bag, it is going to leak.
While there are pluses and minuses to both bags, either one can be used effectively as breast milk storage systems. Your choice will come down to whether or not you want to pump directly into the bag and how you prefer your closure system to be.
